On Tuesday, I told you about your new obligations as a 457 visa sponsor since changes were brought in on 14th September.
But there are some new obligations that apply to workers on 457 visas as well…
Since 14 September 2009:
- Current 457 workers who want to change employers (within the validity of their current visa) do not need to apply for a new Subclass 457 visa – but the nomination must be lodged and approved by their new sponsor.
- New applicants for 457 visas must provide evidence that they have obtained adequate health insurance for the length of their visa, and if they are granted the visa, they must maintain this insurance.
Further information on the changes to subclass 457 visa laws will be included in future Employment Law Practical Handbook updates.
