Dear Reader,
Every week, I get great questions through from subscribers to the Employment Law Practical Handbook.
So many of your queries revolve around leave – annual leave, sick leave, parental leave – the list goes on.
And simple though it might seem, there’s one question that gets asked more than any other.
So I thought I’d share this question (and its answer!) with you today…
Here it is:
Dear Workplace Helpdesk,
Is an employee’s sick leave entitlement cumulative? If so, for how long?
It seems like such a simple one doesn’t it? But you’d be surprised how often it gets asked.
So just to clarify, here is the answer from our lawyers:
The answer is yes. An employee’s unused sick leave entitlement is cumulative from year to year indefinitely.
For those of you that don’t know, the Workplace Helpdesk is a great service that you can access if you are a subscriber to the Employment Law Practical Handbook.

Until next time…
