Happy New Year from the Workplace Bulletin!

Dear Reader,

Happy New Year!

How did you bring in 2010? I had a fabulous time with my family and friends on Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast – we enjoyed plenty of sun, fun and fireworks!

I hope you too had a restful and enjoyable break and are ready and raring to go for the new year!

And what a big year it looks set to be for workplace relations…

Already, 2010 has seen the introduction of both the new Modern Awards and the National Employment Standards. Are you completely up-to-speed with everything you need to know about these and the other Fair Work Act changes? Don’t worry – your 2010 Employment Law Practical Handbook updates will make sure you are.

Not yet subscribed to the handbook? Click here to find out more.

And remember, if you have any specific questions about the NES or the Modern Awards (or anything to do with employment law for that matter!) you can shoot them through to the Workplace Helpdesk.

For those of you who don’t know, the Workplace Helpdesk is a great service you can access if you are a subscriber to the Employment Law Practical Handbook. Just e-mail us all your labour-related questions and receive an answer from a lawyer within 72 hours – for free!

Is your workplace fully prepared for fire season?

As I told you before, I just got back from a relaxing holiday on the Sunshine Coast.

For the most part, my week there was spent lazing on the beach or by the pool, strolling around markets and swimming – in other words, just enjoying the sunshine and the warm weather.

But while summer is a great time to do all of these things, we also need to remember that the warmer temperatures bring with them the threat of bushfires.

Is your workplace fully prepared for fire season? In his article this week, Charles goes over 3 ways you can legally prevent your employees from coming to work on a severe fire danger day.

Until next time…

Claire
