4 New Year’s Resolutions for your Workplace

Dear Reader,

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions for 2010? How are you going with them?

Mine were to save more money – something I find very hard to do when there are just so many beautiful clothes out there! – and, surprise surprise, eat healthily and exercise more.

But coming back to work after the Christmas break got me to thinking…

What if you made New Year’s resolutions that benefit your business too?

For most people, their New Year’s resolutions focus on personal goals: to lose weight, to not eat fast food, to donate more to charity – but why not make resolutions that will benefit your workplace as well?

The start of a New Year is the perfect time for you to review your business practices and make sure they’re legally sound.

Here are 4 New Year’s resolutions for your workplace in 2010…

  1. Review and update your workplace policies regularly.
  2. Check often to make sure your agreements and employment contracts are legally compliant.
  3. Run regular checks of your OH&S procedures to ensure they are meeting all the legal requirements.
  4. Frequently remind your employees about your workplace policies and procedures and the consequences of breaching them. Also inform them of any changes that are made to them.

You may have your own 2010 workplace resolutions you’re dying to get cracking with. Either way, I’d love to hear from you – send your emails through to me at claire@workplacehandbook.com.au

And remember, if you come across any specific employment law questions this New Year, send them to us!
