Psychologist’s request to work remotely reasonably refused

Case

Application by an employee for flexible work arrangements (2025)

The employee was employed as a part-time provisional psychologist for a workplace rehabilitation and chronic pain management employer in Darwin. The employee was required to provide in-person consultations 3 days per week at the employer’s Darwin office.

In August 2024, the employee took a period of domestic violence leave and relocated to Sydney due to safety concerns because her former partner was breaching the apprehended violence order made to protect her and her child. The employee thereafter made a written request for a flexible work arrangement to enable her to work remotely from Sydney providing telehealth consultations.
