The call to refuse a union official entry is challenged in court

The Case

Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union (AMIEU) v Teys Australia Beenleigh Pty Ltd (2022)

When an AMIEU representative sought to enter the worksite of Teys Australia Beenleigh Pty Ltd (Teys), he was asked to relinquish his mobile phone in accordance with Teys’ policy prohibiting unauthorised phones on the site.

The union official required his mobile phone to conduct his work, so he refused to relinquish it but assured Teys that he would only use his mobile phone in non-production areas (such as lunchrooms), and not take photographs or videos in the workplace.
