Can an employee work concurrently for a competitor?

Q: We have a casual employee who has recently taken another casual role with one of our competitors. We are concerned about a conflict of interest with our business. Can we prohibit the employee from working for the competitor even though the employee's contract does not have a specific clause precluding other or secondary employment?
