Will a resigning employee whose role is redundant be entitled to redundancy pay?

Q: Our business is closing down one of its departments and all positions in this department will become redundant. At this stage, only senior management have been made aware of this. One of the employees within the affected department has resigned. This resignation comes very soon before the redundancy announcement is due to take place. Is this employee entitled to redundancy pay?
